This Zenit-C is a 35mm SLR camera that was made in the USSR. Like the earlier Zenit camera models, the Zenit-C is effectively a knock-off of a Leica II in many of its design and functional elements. Like the Leica II, the bottom-loading film compartment requires 35mm film to be properly trimmed so as not to jam the advance mechanism. The Zenit-C introduced the addition of a PC flash sync port, although there is no shoe on which to mount a flash on this camera.
Like other Zenit cameras, this camera requires the user to pay close attention to certain functional rules which can easily break the camera if not adhered to. Notably, this camera should have the shutter cocked before the shutter speed is changed, and the shutter speed dial should never be forced between Bulb and 1/500 (the user should make a full turn the other way instead).
This camera uses a peculiar Zenit M39 lens mount. While Leica thread mount m39 lenses will mount, their flange distance only enables extremely close-up shooting.
